In today’s world, it is imperative for students to become exposed to computer technology at a young age. The skills that the students of SPCA have been learning all year are able to strengthen local community, national innovation, and opportunities for youth. This ability to innovate with technology is also important for students’ future success and their ability to make a difference in a global society. During the 3rd trimester, students will continue to code and program. They will continue to respond to writing prompts for their portfolios. Students in the older grades will be able to make excel spreadsheets effectively analyzing data.
The most important aspect of computer science is problem solving, an essential skill for life. During the 2nd trimester, the students will study the design, development, and analysis of software and hardware used to solve problems in a variety of business, scientific, and social contexts. They will also start typing creative writing entries for their portfolios.
♣ Computer Science Week
December 5th–December 11th ♣
What is Computer Science? Computer Science basically is solving problems with very specific sets of instructions because computers only do exactly what they are told to do. We think of computers as smart but in reality we need to tell them what to do! We can do this through programming or coding. St.Peter’s students are participating in Hour of Code; by using their problem solving skills and critical thinking, they are able to program BB8 (from Star Wars), Angry Birds, and Minecraft, just to name a few.
